Every bar has a look. Most of them are forgettable — the same exposed brick, the same Edison bulbs, the same reclaimed-wood aesthetic that became a template somewhere around 2015 and never went away. Bar Jubilee on the Sunset Strip decided to go a completely different direction: Rock ’n’ Roll Circus.
It’s not a costume. It’s not a gimmick. It’s a fully realized concept that touches everything from the murals on the walls to the names on the cocktail menu.
Where the Idea Came From
The Sunset Strip has always been a stage. From the music clubs of the 1960s to the comedy clubs of the ’80s, this stretch of Sunset Boulevard has been a place where performance and nightlife overlap. Bar Jubilee’s founders saw an opportunity to build on that legacy with a concept that felt theatrical without becoming a theme park.
The Rock ’n’ Roll Circus idea draws from the overlap between rock music culture and old-world carnival tradition — the spectacle, the showmanship, the sense that anything could happen. It’s the energy of a Stones concert crossed with the visual language of a traveling circus, and it’s brought to life through art, design, and cocktail storytelling.
The Art
The most immediately striking thing about Bar Jubilee is the murals. Hand-painted carnival scenes wrap the main bar, creating an immersive backdrop that’s photogenic without being designed for Instagram. The art is detailed enough that regulars notice new elements on return visits — hidden faces, visual puns, references that reward attention.
The Red Room has its own visual identity — deeper tones, a more intimate scale, art that pulls from the darker side of the circus aesthetic. The upstairs pool lounge is more playful. Each space has its own character while belonging to the same world.
The Cocktail Menu as Storytelling
The circus theme extends to every drink on the menu. The Mind Reader, the Freak Show, the Bear on a Unicycle, the Bearded Lady, the Strong Man, the Gladiator, the Trapeze Artist, the Orville Old Fashion — each name is drawn from a circus archetype, and each cocktail is designed to match the character’s personality.
The Mind Reader is mysterious (milk-washed mezcal, translucent, complex). The Bear on a Unicycle is playful (peanut butter bourbon, berries). The Bearded Lady is elegant (gin, lavender, egg white). It’s cocktail storytelling, and it gives guests a reason to explore the entire menu rather than finding one drink and sticking to it.

Why the Theme Works
Most themed bars fail because the theme is a layer of paint on top of an otherwise generic bar. Bar Jubilee works because the theme is integrated into every decision — the design, the menu, the programming, even the weekly events. Jazz Wednesdays and 2000s nights aren’t random — they’re acts in the circus, different performances on different nights.
The no-membership, no-guest-list door policy is also part of the concept. A circus is open to everyone who walks up. So is Bar Jubilee.
