Parking and Getting to the Sunset Strip: A Complete Guide

Local Guide

May 27, 2026

You’ve picked where you’re going on the Sunset Strip. Now the real challenge: getting there and finding somewhere to put your car. Parking on the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood has been a source of frustration for as long as people have been driving there, but it’s manageable if you know the tricks.

Option 1: Rideshare (The Best Option)

Let’s start with the honest truth: rideshare is the best way to get to and from the Sunset Strip. You don’t have to park, you don’t have to worry about meters or time limits, and you can drink freely without watching your intake. Uber and Lyft both have strong coverage in West Hollywood, and drop-off along Sunset Boulevard is straightforward.

If you’re heading to Bar Jubilee, tell your driver 8911 Sunset Blvd — the drop-off is right on the Strip.

Option 2: Street Parking

Metered street parking exists on the side streets south of Sunset Boulevard. Most meters in West Hollywood run until 8 PM or 9 PM, after which parking is free until the next morning. Check the signs carefully — some blocks have different time limits and permit restrictions.

The sweet spot: arrive around 6:30–7 PM, find a metered spot on a side street, pay until the meter expires, and enjoy free parking for the rest of the night. This works especially well if you’re hitting happy hour at Bar Jubilee (7–8 PM).

Street parking on Sunset Boulevard itself is extremely limited and usually full by 7 PM on weekends. Don’t waste time circling the main drag — go straight to the side streets.

Option 3: Parking Lots

Several paid parking lots are scattered along the Sunset Strip. Evening flat rates typically run $15–$25, with prices climbing on Friday and Saturday nights. Some restaurants and venues validate parking at nearby lots — ask when you arrive.

The lots closest to the 8800–9000 blocks of Sunset (where Bar Jubilee sits) tend to be less chaotic than the lots near the 8400–8600 blocks where the clubs are concentrated.

Option 4: Valet

Several restaurants and hotels on the Strip offer valet parking, typically $15–$20 plus tip. If you’re dining before bar-hopping, valet at the restaurant is a convenient move. Some venues have their own valet; check before you go.

Option 5: Public Transit

The Metro Bus Line 2 runs along Sunset Boulevard and stops multiple times on the Strip. It’s not the most glamorous arrival, but it’s cheap, reliable until late evening, and drops you right where you need to be. The nearest Metro Rail station is Hollywood/Highland, about 2 miles east — rideshare from there takes 5–10 minutes.

Tips for Parking on the Strip

Arrive early. If you want street parking, getting to the Sunset Strip before 7 PM gives you the best odds. This aligns perfectly with happy hour at most bars.

Download a parking app. ParkMobile and SpotHero both show available lots and rates near the Strip in real time.

Don’t drive on peak nights if you can help it. Friday and Saturday nights between 9 PM and midnight are the worst for parking. If these are your nights, rideshare is worth the cost.
